The Psychology of Angry Customers

Often, what makes difficult customers difficult is the fact that they are intensely emotional. They are upset, angry, irate, or ballistic. It is impossible to address the real issues the customer has experienced until we first address the emotion of anger.

When it comes to dealing with angry customers, there are four things you must be crystal clear on. These four critical ideas make up what I call the Psychology of Anger..

1. Anger precludes rationality
Angry customers simply cannot rationalize. This is because they are so wrapped up in the emotion of anger that everything you say is filtered through their emotions. Anger is an emotion and emotions are experienced in the right side of the brain. Rationalizing, problem solving, listening, and negotiating are all left-brain activities and your angry customer is stuck in the right side of the brain, and therefore cannot be expected to rationalize with you.

Research has shown that an approach to problem solving that emphasizes anger diffusion first results in a lesser payout by the company.

Warning:
Do not attempt to problem-solve or even offer a concrete solution - such as a credit or a gift card- to an angry customer. Certainly, you don't want to negotiate with an angry customer. If you do try to problem-solve or negotiate with an emotional customer, you will almost always have to offer more than you would, had you first diffused anger….your first task with an angry customer is to diffuse anger and create calm. You will be far more successful if you first create calm.

2. Anger must be acknowledged
It's not productive for you to ignore anger or tip-toe around it. There is something known as the communication chain. When people communicate, they expect the person or persons they are communicating with to respond or react…this response or reaction is a link in the communication chain. A failure to respond to communication leaves the communication chain unlinked.

For example, If I walk into my office and say... "Hello Sherry, how are you?" ....and she says absolutely nothing, she's broken the communication chain. And that leaves me feeling awkward, perhaps embarrassed.

If a customer expresses anger and we fail to respond to it, the communication chain is broken and the customer feels like they are not getting through, that you are not listening.

So, the customer may speak louder to make his or her point. They might become even angrier and more difficult; as they are resorting to whatever it takes to feel heard and understood.

You can keep your angry customers from getting angrier by acknowledging their anger and responding to it. You can respond to anger with a statement like,

"Clearly you're upset and I want you to know that getting to the bottom of this is just as important to me as it is to you."

This statement directly and professionally addresses anger - without- making the customer even angrier. Now that the anger has been acknowledged, you have completed the communication chain.

3. The issue is not the issue.
In conflict situations, the issue at hand is not usually the real issue. The way the issue is handled becomes the real issue. What really matters to customers is not the $2 overcharge or the fact their order for cranberry red paint is actually holly berry red. What does matter is how the company responds and resolves the issue. That becomes the real issue.

Always work hard to offer a solution that demonstrates a sense of urgency, is laced with empathy, includes a sincere apology, and clearly conveys that the getting to the bottom of the problem is as important to you as it is to the customer. When you do this, not only will you solve the problem the customer experienced, but you will create calm and regain customer goodwill.

4. Ventilation is crucial.
An Angry customer can be compared to an erupting volcano. When a volcano is erupting, there is nothing you can do about it. You can't speed up the eruption, you can't put a lid on it, and you cannot direct or redirect it…it must erupt. When a customer is angry, they must experience and express their anger…through venting. We should not interrupt them or tell them to calm down. This would be as futile as trying to tame a volcano. A volcano erupts and eventually subsides. Your angry customer will vent and eventually calm down.

Always let anger customers vent. In most cases, your customer will only need to vent for fifteen to thirty-five seconds.

Now that you know that anger precludes rationality and that anger has to be responded to, make sure you don't ignore the customer's expression of anger and that you always work to diffuse anger and create calm before beginning the problem resolution process.

When you do this, you'll quickly find yourself responding to anger with much more ease and confidence.

Home Composting, the Good the Bad and the Ugly

I hope you found my last article on composting informative but there were a few things I didn't go through last time that I would like to touch base on now. You found out last time that there are basic needs that you need to give for a compost to be productive. Those basic needs are air, food, and water. Now that we have the basics down, and we know how to properly deliver these basics I will now get a little more in depth into what you should and shouldn't put into your compost.
Let's start off with what you shouldn't put in your compost bin. This is an area I really could have used some more knowledge in my first time using a fresh batch of compost in my garden.
1) Any wood product that has been chemically treated (pressure treated lumber) should be left out of your compost. When the wood or sawdust from these types of wood get broken down the chemicals that were used to treat the wood leach into the compost and will ruin the garden or plants that you use the compost in.
2) Diseased plants may infect your garden if the compost was not hot enough to kill off all of the disease. So unless you want to play Russian roulette with next year's garden I would stay away from composting diseased plants.
3) Human and pet waste should never be used in a compost by a back yard gardener. Although possible to effectively compost these materials you take the risk of your pile not being hot enough to kill off all of the diseases that are carried in the waste. There are people who do this type of composting but they are well trained in hot composts and know the temperature and time it takes to safely decompose this type of matter. For the back yard enthusiast I would recommend staying away.
4) Fatty foods and meat waste (including bones) should be left out as well. They will take forever to break down and the local rats and mice may make your compost their new watering hole. If you want to still use these materials you can bury them in your 8" deep in your garden. This will make sure the little vermin can't smell and then get at your leftovers.
5) Pernicious weeds can be a particular pest to compost because even if you chop them up really well these types of weeds will still be able to sprout new roots while in the compost. But there is a way. After weeding leave the uprooted weeds in a pile in the direct sunlight for a couple weeks until they are nice and brown. Then they are safe.
Remember How I said I could have used some of this info in my first compost bin. I found out #5 the hard way. I chopped up a few morning glories into my first compost and the next season I was pulling dozens of them out of my garden where there was none before.

The next thing to learn is what you should put in your compost.

1) Grass is a good material to put in your compost but I have always found it easier to leave it on the ground to help the lawn. But if you decide to use them in your compost make sure to add your grass in thin layers, and mix thoroughly to avoid a slimy layer that will not want to break down.
2) If you want a great material to put in your compost bin, kitchen waste is the way to go. Form fruits and vegetable leftovers, to tea and coffee grounds, this stuff is great to compost. One thing to consider is to make sure your compost bin is secure so this type of waste does not attract the local vermin population like meat products would. Although this type of kitchen waste will break down a lot faster than the meat products will it may still be tempting for a mouse or rat so you may want to think about a bin with a secure top. Avoid milk products as well since this also is a big lure for rats and mice.
3) Leaves can be a great source of material for your compost. Just to think people just rake up and throw away this stuff. If you are feeling energetic why not rake up the neighbour's lawn too. Think of all the point around the block you could earn with your neighbours. Like grass leaves should be mixed in well to avoid clumping up and turning into a big mat in the middle of your bin.
4) Hay and Straw will make an ideal "Brown" ingredient to your mix. Not only will they supply a good nitrogen source for all the little microbes to feast on but they also help your pile from packing down and not allowing enough air to the center of the pile. Remember when you have a "Brown" ingredient in your pile you will also need "green" ingredients (grass, fruits and vegetables) to make the decomposition go quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to read my article on the materials best suited for your compost bin. I will be writing one more article on composting to go along with this and my last one so I hope you will come back soon to check it out.Hi my name is Doug and I live in the Okanagan Valley in British Colombia BC. Things to do on your 18th birthday: My 5 Top Tips!

If you're looking for some of the best things to do on your 18th birthday then your in for a treat! I, unfortunately, am one of the unlucky ones who failed to plan their birthday which undoubtedly lead to a completely wasted 18th birthday that I would love to forget. However so you don't go through the same experience I went through, I decided to do some in-depth research on the area and found some of the most effective things to do on your 18th birthday. I'm going to share with you my top 5 tips to ensure an unforgettable 18th birthday experience.

Remember, it's the most important birthday of your teenage years and it only comes once in your life, so don't make the same mistake I did. Make It Count! So lets get straight into my 5 Top Tips for your 18th Birthday.

# Top Tip 1: Doing Something is better than doing Nothing!

Know this may come to a bit of a shock to some of you but doing anything on your birthday is better than doing nothing at all. I really can't emphasis this enough. It is better to do something that you fairly fond of like going cinema or bowling on your 18th then be stuck at home watching the a "re-run" of "pets do the funniest things"!

# Top Tip 2: The Secret to clubbing

Depending on where you live this is the most popular thing to do on your 18th birthday. However there are some tips and tricks that I have picked up that will assure you that you 1. Get into a club 2. Get your friends into the club 3. Get in free!

Now this won't work all the time but, from experience it does work some of the time and is worth at least trying. What you need to do is call every club that your thinking of going to and informing them that it is your birthday and you will be coming down with "X" amount of friends. Most of the club owners have certain provisions for birthdays including free entry or free tables or free birthday gifts as they know that a birthday means guest and guest mean money. The more enquires the better results!

# Top Tip 3: Why it's Crucial to have a Plan B

Did you know that this is where most 18 year olds get it wrong? They go out and don't have a backup plan! When plan A fails, this for most is where the party DIES. Don't be one of them! Have a backup venue that you can go to if your initial plan doesn't work. This can be anything from a restaurant to a cinema but just have one. It's better to do something that you don't really mind doing than nothing at all!

# Top Tip 4: Themed Parties

This is my favourite. So you may not want to go out on your 18th birthday which means you can bring the party to you! Even if you rent out a hall this is the best idea to ensure a positive turnout and guarantee fun. A themed party can be anything from black and white dress code to your own personalized casino night filled with the red carpet and roulette tables as standard! It really depends on your budget and your imagination but this is by far the best way to ensure an unforgettable night in your control.

# Top Tip 5: Why you should celebrate your 18th more than once!

This one is a peach! One of the main reasons that celebrating your 18th birthday can become a bit complex is that we try to cater our birthday plans around everyone: family, friends and partners. This is the BIGGEST MISTAKE you could make.

It is so much better to celebrate Thursday night in a restaurant with the family, Friday night going to a cinema with your partner and Saturday night parting until dusk with friends. Obviously each category is flexible but remember the more people you try to please the less likely it is for you to be happy. Remember who's 18th birthday it is!

Now the thing to remember here is your 18th birthday is a once in a lifetime event and you should really try your best to make it unforgettable, with any budget. I found out the hard way and would hate for you to suffer the same drag that I went through. So I have done the research and produced a the ultimate guide on "things to do on your 18th Birthday", which explains fully the "Do's and Dont's" of your 18th birthday, including what the best places to go regardless of price. Set up backyard to the baseball field

As most of us are aware baseball is the most popular game in United States and Americans enjoy playing this game. To play the game more frequently and for longer hours, the ideal thing would be to build a backyard baseball field. While it may not be practicable to build a backyard baseball field to scale, you can certainly make one that provides a lot of excitement and fun. To build our own backyard baseball field is not difficult if you can spare the time and have the willingness.

Thoroughly examine your backyard for a space that is rectangular or round in shape. Obviously the bigger the space you can provide, the better will be the baseball field. It will be helpful if you can identify a place in your backyard that is even and without many obstructions, such as rocks, plants or trees. Obtain an approximate measurement of the area you have using measurement tape. This will help you decide the scale of your field. As you are aware, the average baseball field center wall is 400 feet from home plate. If your yard measures 200 feet, you will be required to cut the rest of the measurements in half to build your backyard baseball field.

side-view-pitchingpadUse a protractor and position your home plate in a way that you can read a 90 degree angle as if it were the base of a diamond. The playing area between first base and third base needs to be a perfect right angle of ninety degrees. After marking that spot, using a rope roll it out the length of your backyard on each 90 degree angle. These are essentially your foul lines. If your baseball field is say 200 feet as presumed earlier, then your bases will be at 45 feet. Mark 45 feet from home plate along each rope, using your tape. These are the first and third base respectively. Again using your protractor measure 90 degrees from first and third base, so that the angle is facing out where second base would be. Take more rope and lead from first and third base, on that 90 degree angle until it crosses. This is second base. Finally measure the distance between home plate and second base and in the middle is where you should mark the pitching grip. The only measurement that has to be scrupulously exact is the Little League 46 foot distance from plate to pitchers mound. This is essential for a batter to learn correct timing. All other base placement is arbitrary but it will be nice if you can match the Little League distances as far as possible.

The next step is to cut the grass. In the Major Leagues, there is a difference between the length of the grass in the infield and in the outfield. If you wish your baseball field to be near to the original, then cut the infield grass one inch and the outfield at two inches. This will separate the two and give the field a more realistic appearance. With the aid of your ropes for straight lines, spray paint every place you have marked. This will become the outline of your field. You should also spray paint the foul lines, base paths and pitcher's mound. Appropriately place your bases which you can find cheaply at any sporting goods stores. You have now completed your own backyard baseball field.

How To Improve You Golf Driver Distance

Want to know how to improve your golf driver distance? If you are going to gain the competitive edge, you do not need to hear that you simply need to improve in that area. And to be honest, you may need to really think about a new golf driver set or at the very

least, a new golf driver.

It is probably nothing that you have not heard before when discussing a good golf score. Just ask any golf pro and they will all likely tell you the very same thing. Hitting the golf ball extra yardage is going to give anyone the competitive edge. The top players in the world are very in tune about making sure that they have the right and perhaps a new golf driver.

It is no secret that most golfers want to hit the ball longer. Manufacturers of golf equipment know what golfers want which is why they are continually evaluating their products.

There is no debating the topic. If you would like to perfect your game, you are going to have to really look at your golf driver set if you want to improve your distance. This may also mean purchasing a new golf driver. Golf driver distance is also the result of your techniques, meaning that you cannot expect to have a great golf game if you do not practice the appropriate techniques that you learned in an effort to play a better game.

It is the same thing the other way around, too. If you excel with the tried and true golf swing techniques, your golf game is not going to be as good as it could be if you have just an average golf driver set.

If you have played for any significant amount of time, you have probably heard the following tips before but they are certainly worth repeating because they really are important when you step onto any golf course.

The first tip is to balance yourself. Try practicing your stance as if you are just about to swing the club. Concentrate on your balance and think about your center of gravity. This is essential because the correct balance will make optimal use of

your golf driver.

Tip Two: Place your golf driver behind the ball. By doing this simple tip, you will prevent yourself from tensing up and in turn, you will draw the club back in a much more smoothly fashion as you follow through.

Tip Three: Do not stand there thinking about one thing and one thing only about how far your golf driver distance is going to take you. To reiterate, concentration comes into action here. Rather than think about how many yards you are going to hit the

ball, concentrate on your entire body. This includes your legs and arms and certainly a balanced stance.

The combination of these items will help you you make a great shot because it will maximize the power that you put into your swing.

How to make money online and do not pay taxes

In these very troubled times, the question is, how can the ordinary man or women make some extra cash easily, with little risk and legally PAY NO TAX.

The answer for a growing number of people is to use a technique of exchanging currencies that allows them keep the difference as profit. It may sound hard but in fact it is very easy and simple to do. All you need is some simple guidelines, some spare time and a little cash to get you going.

There are literally thousands and thousands of ordinary people from all walks of life quietly doing just this every day of the week and the amazing thing is they need no formal training, special skills or be ultra intelligent to do it. In fact silly as it might sound the less you know about trading and the Foreign Exchange Market (Forex) the better as you will not have any pre conceived ideas or bad habits to over come.

So what exactly is involved.

Although there are two ways to do the exchanging of currencies (loosely called trading) in reality there is only one that allows you to keep all the profit and is easy and simple for the average person to do and understand.

That is spread betting!

As the name implies with spread betting you are basically betting but rather than like betting in horse racing or dog racing where you are predicting what will win the race with spread betting you are predicting which direction a particular currency that you choose is going to move in a given time frame.

Now I know we have all heard the horrendous stories of people losing massive amounts of money from trading but to be honest these are probably not true unless you are talking about the city high flyers that trade with massive amounts of money at their disposal. For the average private trader the sums involved are mostly in the 10s or 100s range rather than 1000s or certainly 10,000s. In addition with the sensible use of a Stop Loss it is virtually impossible to lose more than you determine when you start the trade.

This subject is far larger than can be covered in this brief article but by keeping it simple and not trying to become an expert even the most inexperienced person can make some really helpful income from this business.

By all means do some research and find out about what the Forex is all about but before you do simply go and see what the possibilities are by visiting the site detailed below.

How to make money online by trading the Financial Markets is a concept that is now readily available for anyone who wants the flexibility and freedom of working from home. Find out how you can work online for just a few hours a day and enjoy trading the Forex Markets using accurate and reliable information - at a cost of only a few pounds a month.
